Why you’ll want to help us build the hub...

the hub
challenge

South Taranaki District Council is taking the lead in providing a much-needed sports, events and recreation centre for Hawera and the wider district and region. It has pledged $14.87 million by way of a loan to be repaid using surplus interest from its Long Term Investment Fund, thus preventing any direct impact on rates for construction of the complex.

It also has helped mobilise a community and corporate fundraising effort to ensure the project is delivered as envisioned, with an estimated total cost of $22.7 million.

Let us make South Taranaki even better!

Several large philanthropic trusts are being approached for significant contributions and it is anticipated that the Ministry of Education will provide funding in recognition of the hub’s importance as a sports venue for the adjacent Hawera High School.

Corporate support is a vital part of the funding mix because the hub will be a key asset in helping to enhance South Taranaki’s already solid reputation as an attractive place to live, work, play and raise a family. the hub represents the sort of amenity South Taranaki needs to help its businesses compete for people with the skills they require, thus enabling them to retain their often significant operations in the  district.

the hub project provides an opportunity for businesses to work in partnership with the Council, the community and other donors to make South Taranaki even better.

An ambitious project...

This is an ambitious project for a largely rural district, but one that has been thoroughly investigated and planned with ongoing community involvement. The Council’s generous contribution provides a great funding base but it is insufficient to realise the goal of a functional multi-use complex that meets the community needs without the active support of the community and other funders.

As such, the hub development team has put into place a fundraising scheme which is not only geared to putting to great use contributions of all amounts, but in return, provides unparalleled opportunities for local businesses, high net wealth individuals and other sponsors – both in South Taranaki and beyond – to benefit from the public recognition which contributions to such worthy and high profile projects, deserve.
