The Holden Bullride proves a huge success
The Holden Bullride has added a whopping $15,000 to the hub fundraising efforts (in December, 2007), thanks to generous sponsorship by local businesses and a large turnout for the day of thrills and spills at Hawera's A & P Showgrounds.
the hub fundraising manager Gerard Langford welcomed the $15,000 donation from the team of volunteers who organised the Bullride. "It's a great boost to the community's fundraising efforts, which are really gaining momentum as we approach the start of construction at Hicks Park," said Mr Langford.
"We have Fast Forward Hawera to thank for coming up with the idea and making it happen. This just shows what our community groups can do to help make the hub reach its potential as a premier sports, events and leisure centre for people of all age groups and interests from throughout South Taranaki and for visiting teams and conference delegates."
Fast Forward Chairman Celine Filbee said many businesses had come to the party when approached for sponsorship, with Moller Johnson Motors and Selwyn Metcalf Real Estate taking the lead. Residents also got behind the event with about 2500 turning out for a day that included bullriding, a calf riding competition for primary school students, a mechanical bull, face painting, bouncy castle, good music and a variety of food.
All the feedback received by organisers Fast Forward Hawera had been extremely positive, said Ms Filbee.
"A lot of people have stopped me in the street, or rung me, to congratulate Fast Forward on providing a professionally run event," she said. "Many are keen for us to do it again this year and perhaps make it an annual event.
"As well as being great entertainment and raising funds for the hub, the Bullride is another way to attract visitors to South Taranaki region," said Ms Filbee.
